INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday Night, Indiana Marching.com (IM.com) presented their 2009 award winners. The Springs Valley Blackhawk Brigade won four IM.com honors including Band of the Year.
The Blackhawk Brigade also won awards for Outstanding Show Design, Best Hospitality, and Best Represented on IM.com (or Classiest Band). The four awards won by Springs Valley were the most of any band. Avon (Class A State Champion) won three.
Springs Valley was also nominated for nine awards including best musical performance, best general effect, best brassline, best cheering section, and IM.com Poster of the Year in John Aylsworth. The nine nominations were also tops on the awards list, again in front of Avon with five.
The staff that runs the statewide marching band website votes at the conclusion of each season to hand out these awards. The staff attends almost every contest during the two-month season, seeing almost every band in the state.
The Brigade is now in preparation for national competition, as they will travel to Lucas Oil Stadium for the Music for All, Bands of America Grand National Championships. Springs Valley will first compete in preliminary round on Thursday, November 12 at 10:45 am. They will learn Friday whether they have advanced to the semi-finals, held on Saturday.
