FRENCH LICK, Ind. – Thursday morning, the Springs Valley Blackhawk Brigade will head to Indianapolis and compete for a national championship in the Music for All, Bands of America (BOA) Grand Nationals.

This will be the second consecutive year that the Brigade will compete in a national competition.  Last season, Springs Valley was the first Class D band to christen Lucas Oil Stadium in the BOA Soundcheck.  It will be the third appearance at the Grand Nationals as the Brigade performed in this contest in 1987 and 1999.

Ninety bands from 20 states will be represented including 13 from Indiana, 25 from Ohio and 6 from Kentucky.  Springs Valley will see strong competition including Williamstown (KY) and Bourbon County (KY). Both bands won the state championship in their class last weekend in Louisville.

The Brigade will take the field at 10:45 am Thurdsay.  They will learn whether the advanced to the Class A finals and Grand National Semi-Finals on Thursday Night.  Thirty bands from the two-day prelims will advance to the semi-finals, which is held Saturday morning.  The Grand National Finals will be Saturday Night.

In the Indiana Marching.com post-season awards, the Brigade earned the title of Band of the Year.  They also won best show design, hospitality, and classiest band.  On top of the four awards won, the Brigade was nominated for five others.

The staff that runs the statewide marching band website votes at the conclusion of each season to hand out these awards.  The staff attends almost every contest during the two-month season, seeing almost every band in the state.
