FRENCH LICK, Ind. – The Springs Valley Blackhawk Brigade has spent the last eight weeks preparing their 2008 show entitled “Puzzled & aMAZEd.”  With the arrival of the first football game, the Brigade plans for their array of performances, beginning Friday night at the Brown County football game.

Director of Bands, Luke Aylsworth, is entering his eighth season as director of the Brigade.  Under his direction, the Brigade has made back to back appearances in the ISSMA State Marching Band Finals in Indianapolis. The Brigade looks to remain among the powers in Class “D” competition. "Our expectation this season is the same as every season,” added Aylsworth. “We expect to improve our musical and visual performance from the previous season. That is what we hope the students translate to be the goal in every area of their lives. You should want to improve from year to year, season to season and day to day."

The titled “Puzzled & aMAZEd” may leave you just that, puzzled.  “We wanted to do a show on puzzles or items that cause confusion,” mentioned Aylsworth. “Then it hit us that we could use puzzles and incorporate mazes, giving us the title of ‘Puzzled & aMAZEd.’”

Springs Valley will begin their season at home with the “Festival of Marching Bands” on September 6.  The Brigade will host a exhibition featuring Paoli, Orleans, Northeast Dubois and Springs Valley.  "With the addition of the ISSMA Semi State contest, our season is now a week longer,” stated Aylsworth. “So, we were looking for ways to get a performance weekend early in the season, but stay near home.”

The festival also gives all the local bands a chance to see each other and perform without the added stress of judges or travel.  Fans are all encouraged to come see the local bands perform.

During the season, the Brigade will make multiple stops around Indiana; most notable is the Bands of America contest at Lucas Oil Stadium in September.  Springs Valley will also be performing close to home with shows both at Paoli and Jasper.
