Playing with Class
By: Darcy Olsen
Blackhawk Brigade Senior Clarinet
The Clarinet section consists
of one senior, one junior, two freshmen, one eighth grader,
and one sixth grader. Their names are Darcy Olsen, Nay Thammakumpee,
Michelle Stinchcomb, Louinda Pagan, Kirsten Gomez, and Danessa
Galloway.
Darcy Olsen is the senior of the section.
She has been in the Blackhawk Brigade for five years. A
few of her favorite memories are all of the fun times with
all of her senior buddies, all of the humorous phone conversations
on the band bus, and all the great hugs from friends. The
adrenaline rush from performing has encouraged Darcy to
stay in marching band.
Michelle Stinchcomb has participated in
marching band for three years. Her favorite memory is marching
in the RCA dome last year. “That was the best experience
in my marching career”, says Michelle. What she enjoys
most about band is Darcy’s great sense of humor.
Louinda Pagan has participated in the marching
band for two years. Her most memorable moment was when Mr.
Aylsworth slid down the hill at a football game last year.
When he came back to the band room his whole backside was
covered in mud. She is motivated by Darcy. “She tries
to make things fun and enjoyable yet serious and to the
point. She does a very good job”, says Louinda.
This is also Kirsten’s second year.
The moment of this year that sticks out in her mind the
most is when, Lucy White fell asleep on the football field,
on her flag. What makes her continue band year after year
is having the chance to be with all of her closest friends
and them pushing her to her fullest. “I love a challenge”
says Kirsten.
This is Nay’s first year in marching
band. The most fun she has had is when Alex Pierce and Drew
Hill lead the “HOO-HOO” chant to get everyone
pumped up. What she enjoys most about band is getting to
know everyone. “It’s fun to make so many new
friends”, says Nay.
For Danessa this is also her first year.
She really enjoys meeting new people. “All of the
people in band are really fun to hang out with”, says
Danessa. What persuaded her to be in band was her family.
She has a long line of generations that were in the Blackhawk
Brigade and she wanted to keep up the tradition.
