INDIANAPOLIS - The 2007 ISSMA State Finals
marked the last state finals held in the RCA Dome (formally
known as the Hoosier Dome). This year, state finals will
be held just across South Street in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Lucas Oil Stadium opens in the fall of
2008 with none other than a marching event. Drum Corp, International
will be the first event held in the $625 million stadium.
Following the DCI World Championships in August, ISSMA will
hold the first high school event with the Marching Band
State Finals on November 1. BOA will host its regional and
grand national event the following two weekends on November
8 and November 12-15. It will also be the official home
of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.
The new stadium will have a retractable
roof and be able to be open for events, given good weather
conditions. The retractable roof will be the first in the
world to open from sideline to sideline. All roofs currently
open towards the endzones. Lucas Oil Stadium will seat 63,000
for football games and up to 70,000 for basketball games,
such as the 2010 NCAA Final four.
The RCA Dome is schedule for demolition
in 2008, following the completion of the new stadium. The
Dome opened in 1984 and will have stood 24 years. The Springs
Valley Blackhawk Brigade has marched 11 times in the RCA
Dome, ten times at state finals and one time as a part of
the BOA Grand Nationals event in 1999. The Springs Valley
football team also played for a state championship back
in 1989 in the Dome. They would lose that game 31-7 to the
Bremen Lions.
