JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. – This past Saturday, the Springs Valley Blackhawk Brigade received a Gold Rating and placed in the top ten in the ISSMA South Regional, advancing them to the Class D Semi-State Saturday in Franklin.
Springs Valley has earned 23 gold ratings at regional and 5 this decade. This comes with a lot of hard work from both the students and staff. “I still find it amazing that we are performing shows at this level of difficulty and excellence. It was only a few senior classes ago that we had goals of receiving a Gold Rating at District,” said Director of Bands Luke Aylsworth.
Those seniors of the 2002 class began repaving the path to excellence. “Now, we are consistently improving and performing high-demand shows at a maximum quality. This just reaffirms that the school corporation and community have made music education a priority. This is outstanding! Our school and community are viewed by others as a positive example and model for the improvement and success of their programs. It speaks volumes for our community, school board, administrators, parents, students, and staff,” added Aylsworth
The Brigade turns its attention to the Class D Semi-State at Franklin Community Schools. Springs Valley will take the field at 4:15pm. “The greatest aspect of the weekend is getting another chance to watch our students interact with our parents and supporters. This activity is one of the few activities where parents and supporters can play a vital role in the actual production, organization, and management of the performance. It provides a unique experience for parents and students where families get to spend quality time together while working towards a common goal,” Aylsworth concluded.
Fans are encouraged to head up to Franklin for the Semi-State. If Springs Valley places in the top ten, they will advance to their third consecutive state championship contest.
