FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Springs Valley Blackhawk Brigade will participate in their 19th ISSMA State Finals this weekend.  Paoli, Forest Park, and seven other statewide Class D bands will join the Brigade vying for the state crown on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Director of Bands Luke Aylsworth said, “Again this year, our students have taken the title of State Finalist very seriously. It is always one of our goals. They are committed to working harder, longer and better each season. I am very proud of their hard work and effort.”

As the Brigade has experienced the last two years, this state finals week will be full of fun and excitement from the parents daily snacks to a special ceremony on Friday. “This week is about enjoying, controlling, and surviving several emotions that the week has in store for our program,” added Aylsworth. “The first emotion is excitement and relief. It is awesome to be at this level of competition. We have a very fun week with special events scheduled throughout the week. However, that excitement has to also be controlled. They have to have fun when it is time to have fun, yet combine that with a high demand work ethic. Simultaneously, they have to survive through the emotions that are attached to the season ending and seniors finishing up their final performance in the Blackhawk Brigade.”

This will not be an easy task for the members of the Brigade.  However, Ayslworth is confident the students will be able to handle it with “professional and maturity they have displayed all season.”

Springs Valley was the last band to perform in the ISSMA Class D State finals last year, going down as the final Class D band to perform in the RCA Dome.  Sunday, the Brigade was drawn first to perform at the new Lucas Oil Stadium.  John Aylsworth, Luke’s father and former director, also stated that the Brigade was the first group to perform in the RCA Dome (then the Hoosier Dome.)

The Springs Valley community is dealing with a wealth of success this week between the marching band and volleyball programs.  “You have Volleyball Regional and Marching Band State Finals on the same day. It is awesome that we have our school represented so well.  We want to congratulate the Volleyball team on their Sectional title and wish them good luck in the Regional. What a great week to be a Blackhawk fan,” said Aylsworth.

Springs Valley will perform at 4:10pm with awards scheduled for around 6:30pm. Tickets for the ISSMA State Finals will be on sale in the high school office until Friday afternoon.  Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $18 for children.  You may also purchase tickets at the door or online at Ticketmaster.com.
