JASPER, Indiana – The Springs Valley Blackhawk Brigade received a gold rating at this past Saturday’s Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) District contest at Alumni Stadium in Jasper.

The Brigade reached the qualifying mark set by the ISSMA Board to advance to the Regional for the fifth consecutive year and the 25th time in Springs Valley’s history. The 2007 Southern Regional will be held at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Indiana State University on October 14.

The Brigade has a full weekend of events this week. If you are looking to see the Brigade perform, you will have four chances starting with the Springs Valley / Perry Central football game on Friday Night. On Saturday, they will perform a community show at 2:00pm in conjunction with the sesquicentennial events.

Saturday Night, the Brigade will perform at the Salem Invitational in Class “3A” competition. They take the field at 7:45pm. On Sunday, they will perform in the annual Pumpkin Festival Parade beginning at 2:00pm.

With over 3,000 band alumni, it's likely that many will be returning to the Valley for sesquicentennial festivities, some for the first time in years. Director of Bands Luke Aylsworth mentioned the tying in of the alumni to this year’s “3 Generations” show. "This show is very enjoyable. It basically represents the Springs Valley Band program. I grew up with this program and it means a great deal to me. Every time the kids perform the show, it reaches me and other alumni on an emotional level. It is a very special season."

In the weekly Indiana Marching.com Writers Poll, Springs Valley remained at third in Class “D.” Tied in first are the two defending Class “D” state champions from Lewis Cass and Paoli. Forest Park is down to fifth while Orleans makes its second appearance on this year’s polls, rounding out the top 20.
