Valley Trombones Sliding their way back to the Dome

By: Tommy Lynch
Blackhawk Brigade Sophomore Trombone

The Springs Valley trombone section is four members strong this year. This four-man group consists of sophomore Tommy Lynch, freshman Ethan “Farva” Emmons, eighth grader Landon Price, and rookie seventh grader Chris Garrison. These guys have carried their load throughout the year and are on their way to back to state finals.

Lynch is in his fourth year as a trombone. His leadership has helped put the younger guys on the right track. He is one of three opening soloists during the Brigade’s beginning tune of their “Generations” show.

Farva, as we have all come to know him, is in his third year with the Brigade. He has stepped up this season and became a key leader in the group. Not only has he helped lead the younger guys, but he has also improved his appearance on the field. His sound has improved 100% as well. Farva will be a key member of the Brigade in the years to come.

Price is marching his second season with the bones, coming off his rookie year appearance at the RCA Dome last year. This young man has an amazing sound that comes from his trombone, not to mention the fact that he can march over a brick wall as well. The trombone section wouldn’t be where they are now without Price on their side.

This year’s rookie trombone player is seventh grader Chris Garrison. It didn’t take him long to figure out how to be one of the top marchers of his class. On most occasions, Mr. Aylsworth and the band forget that this is only his first year marching. He has been a quick learner in all aspects of marching band, and we expect him to only get better as the years go on.

The trombones have been working hard all year, from that first day of band camp in the 100 degree weather all the way up to the gold division they proudly earned in Terre Haute last Saturday. They hope to have the support of the whole town to follow them up to the RCA Dome this Saturday. They would love to hear the chant of “Hawks” as they take the field at 6:07 for domination.
