Who are the Trumpets?

By: Kyle Apple
Blackhawk Brigade Junior Trumpet

Trumpets are often said to be the most egotistical section of any band, but of course that does not hold true here at Springs Valley. The fact is that we are just the best section in the band.

All jokes aside, this year’s trumpet section is loaded with talent. Said by some to be the best trumpet line Springs Valley has seen in years, it is made up of seven hard-working and intelligent people.

This year’s junior trumpet players are Kyle Apple and Zeke Harger. They are in the midst of their third and fourth years marching (respectively) and are the current section leaders. They work hard each practice to ensure that everyone else is performing at the highest level possible.

Derek Galloway is the sole sophomore trumpet. This is his fifth year as a marching member, making him the most experienced member of the trumpet line. He has a hard-working attitude and talent to match, and is regarded as one of the band’s top individual marchers.

Freshman trumpet players include Amanda Emmons (in her third year) and Kylyn Dixon (in her second year). They are both excellent players and can be relied upon to perform at a consistently high level. They work hard in practice, and it shows on the field with constant improvement week-to-week at competitions.

Rounding out the trumpet section are seventh-graders Ben Downing and Brandon Deel. As the only “rookie” marchers in the trumpet line this year, they naturally started a bit behind the more experienced members. Now, though, they sound and look good enough to make one think that they have been marching for many years.
